Calella de Palafrugell lies about 15 miles to
the south of Estartit and about 2 miles from the large town of Palafrugell which
is well worth a visit in its own right as it has a colourful market and offers
bargains in porcelain, cork and leatherware.
The picture postcard village of Calella de Palafrugell and its magnificent coastline
are in our opinion unequalled in beauty anywhere on the Mediterranean let alone Spain.
However this Calella must not be confused with the larger much more commercialised
Calella de La Costa to the south.
On a bright summers day it is a sheer joy to sit at one of the pretty little sea-front
cafes just watching the world go by. Calella is a Mecca for artists, writers and
photographers from all over Europe, many of whom take up summer residence and add to the charm
and colour of the resort.
